Bail FAQs
The Compton Courthouse stands at 200 West Compton Boulevard, in Compton's civic center. It serves the South Central end of Los Angeles County, and unlike many of the county's regional courthouses it carries a genuinely broad docket rather than a narrow slice of it.
Criminal, civil, family law, juvenile justice, small claims, and traffic matters are all handled at this location. For families that means the same building can be where a criminal case is arraigned, where a restraining order is heard, and where a small claims dispute is filed — but it also means the department number on your notice matters enormously, because those calendars run in different rooms on different schedules.
The case volume here comes largely from LASD's Compton Sheriff's Station and the surrounding South County agencies. That link between station and courthouse is the practical spine of a Compton case: the arrest and booking happen at the station, the calendar sits on Compton Boulevard, and the release happens wherever the defendant is physically held.
As at every county courthouse, no one is held here past the court day and no bail money is accepted at the counter. In-custody defendants are transported in for the appearance and returned afterward. The bond that actually produces a release goes to the jail.

Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. Compton Courthouse runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.
| Courthouse building | Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
|---|---|
| Clerk's office | Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
| Typical courtroom sessions | 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
| Saturday, Sunday & court holidays | Closed |
| Armstrong Bail Bonds | Open 24 hours, every day |
Court hours and jail release hours run on different clocks. The courthouse closes at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays; the Compton Sheriff's Station and the county facilities accept bail bonds at any hour.
With bail already set at the schedule amount, posting does not wait for a courtroom. The bond goes to the facility currently holding the defendant.
Release timing tracks the facility. A station release can move in a couple of hours; the Inmate Reception Center downtown commonly runs several hours and longer overnight.
Departments recess midday. With this many calendar types in one building, arriving early and confirming your department number on the daily posting is worth the time.

Compton Courthouse has a dedicated pay structure a block off the Metro line, which makes it one of the easier South County courthouses to reach.
A pay parking structure is located at 400 S Acacia Ave, at the corner of Acacia Avenue and Myrrh Street, just south of the courthouse. Bring payment — this is not free parking.
The structure sits one block west of the Metro A Line (formerly the Blue Line), so rail is a practical alternative if you want to skip the parking fee entirely.
All visitors pass through screening at the entrance. Weapons, recording devices, and cameras are prohibited without prior authorization. Add 20–30 minutes for the entry line on a busy morning calendar.
Compton is one of the county's broader regional courthouses, carrying six distinct categories of case.
Criminal matters from Compton-area arrests are calendared here — arraignments, pretrial conferences, motions, and case resolution. The department number on the notice controls the courtroom.
Family law matters are heard at this courthouse, which keeps South County litigants from having to travel elsewhere for those proceedings.
Juvenile justice matters are among the case types handled at this location — a category most regional courthouses in the county do not carry.
Civil matters including small claims are filed and heard here, giving local residents and businesses a nearby venue.
Traffic citations from the area are handled on their own calendars, separate from the criminal departments even inside the same building.
Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the Los Angeles Superior Court felony and misdemeanor bail schedule.
Bail on a Compton arrest is set at booking under the Los Angeles County bail schedule, before any appearance on Compton Boulevard. That amount is postable immediately at the station holding the defendant.
Arraignment in the assigned department is the first judicial review of the number. The judge can keep it, raise it, reduce it, or grant own-recognizance release, and either side can move to change bail later under the hearing rules cited above.
Posting at the Compton Sheriff's Station before the county transfer keeps the release local. Once the transfer runs, men are released from the downtown complex and women from Century Regional in Lynwood, after longer processing.
The bond stays live for every appearance on the case through resolution. Give us a full legal name and date of birth and we locate the booking, confirm the amount, quote the premium, and post at any hour.
Every bond we write is issued by a California Department of Insurance licensed bail agent under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, at the statutory 10% premium.
A missed appearance at Compton Courthouse can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →

Who is writing this bond
Cecil C. Armstrong opened our Glendale office in 1926. Four generations later, Bill Armstrong (CEO) and Nikki Armstrong (Co-CEO & Licensed Bail Agent) — the fourth generation of the family — still run the company, and our agents still answer the phone themselves. When you call about an arrest in Los Angeles or San Diego County, you reach a licensed Armstrong agent, not a national call center that hands your file to a stranger in another state.
